Any media file the browser can decode works: MP4 and M4A video, and audio formats such as WAV, MP3, OGG and FLAC. A file whose audio track the browser cannot read reports an error instead of producing notes.

The audio track can run up to 15 minutes and the file can be up to 90 MB. MP4 to MIDI rejects a longer track or a larger file before decoding starts, rather than transcribing part of it.

MP4 to MIDI uses basic-pitch pitch detection, which is built around one note sounding at a time. A solo instrument or a single vocal line transcribes best; chords, dense mixes and percussion come out approximate.

MP4 to MIDI reports the notes the model actually detected. A quiet, noisy or percussion-heavy audio track yields fewer pitched notes than a clear melody does, so a clip with no sustained pitch can return an empty file.

The download is a Standard MIDI File, so any DAW or notation editor can open it. You can move notes, quantize the timing or swap the instrument without touching the original video.

MP4 to MIDI needs neither. There is no sign-in step and no generation job is submitted, because the transcription happens in the browser with the model already loaded from this page's own site.
