Replace a Section
Rewrite one part of a song — a line, a verse or a chorus — with new lyrics, choosing the section by its lyric lines or on the waveform, while the rest of the song stays as it was.
Replace section rewrites one part of a finished song and leaves everything around it untouched. Use it to fix a line, swap a verse, or try a different chorus without regenerating the whole track. Your original is kept; the result is a new version.
What the song needs
Replace section works on a song with vocals whose full lyrics are on record, which is the case for vocal songs generated here. An instrumental has no lyrics to rewrite, and an upload with no lyrics on record has nothing to anchor the section to, so the action is unavailable for both.
Choose the section
There are two ways to mark the part to rewrite:
- By lyric lines. Choose Prepare timed lyrics, then tap the first and the last line of the section you want to rewrite. The section snaps to where those lines are sung.
- On the waveform. Drag the two Replace handles around the part, or type the start and end times. Use this when some lines could not be matched to timestamps, or when the part has no words.
The section must be between 6 and 60 seconds long and no more than half of the song. A section that ends on a bar line, rather than mid-word, joins most smoothly.
Write the replacement lyrics
Write the new words in Replacement lyrics. Keep a similar number of syllables per line as the part you are replacing; the melody has to fit them in the same amount of time. Leave the style as it is to keep the same voice and arrangement, or adjust it to change the feel of that part only.
Generate and compare
Generate, then play the new version against the original. The result comes back as the whole song with the new section in place, so there is nothing to join afterwards. If the transition is noticeable, move the boundaries to a breath or the end of a phrase and try again. Each attempt is a separate generation; the cost is on the button before you start.
