# Vocal Remover and Stem Splitter

Separate a song into a vocal and an instrumental, or into 4, 6 or up to 12 stems, and choose the right mode for karaoke, remixing, practice or mastering.

Two tools take a finished stereo song apart. Both accept MP3, WAV, OGG, M4A, FLAC and AAC, and both keep tempo and key untouched, so every part drops back onto a timeline in sync.

## Which tool to use

| You want | Use | You get |
| --------------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------- |
| A karaoke track, or an a cappella for a remix | [AI Vocal Remover](https://aimusicis.com/ai-vocal-remover) | 2 files: the vocal and the instrumental |
| Drums, bass and other parts separately | [AI Stem Splitter](https://aimusicis.com/ai-stem-splitter), 4-Stem Split | Vocals, drums, bass and other |
| Guitar and piano on their own as well | AI Stem Splitter, 6-Stem Split | The four above plus guitar and piano |
| Every part of a song generated here | AI Stem Splitter, All Detected Stems | Every stem found, up to 12 |

**All Detected Stems** is available for songs generated in Aimusicis. For an uploaded song, use the 4- or 6-stem mode.

## Run a separation

1. Open the tool and upload a song, or choose one from My Music. In the studio, a song's menu also offers **Remove vocals** and **Split into stems** for that song.
2. For the stem splitter, select the mode before running.
3. When it finishes, play each part on its own, then download the parts you need.

Separation draws credits per run, shown on the button before you start; see [Credits and Plans](https://aimusicis.com/docs/getting-started/credits-and-plans).

## Getting a cleaner result

- **Start from the best source you have.** A WAV or a high-bitrate file separates more cleanly than a heavily compressed MP3 or a recording from a phone speaker.
- **Expect some bleed.** Reverb and backing vocals are shared between parts, so a soloed stem can sound thin or carry a faint trace of another instrument. Played together, the parts recombine cleanly.
- **Separate once, then edit.** To rebalance a song, separate it, then layer the parts at the levels you want in the [Audio Mixer](https://aimusicis.com/audio-mixer).

## What to do next

- Sing over the instrumental, or record a new take and mix it in.
- Use an isolated vocal as training audio for a [voice model](https://aimusicis.com/docs/voice-and-audio/voice-models-and-covers).
- Master the rebalanced mix with [AI Mastering](https://aimusicis.com/ai-mastering).
